Do you ever run across something you like and then forget where you found it? I know I do. So, I thought it would be helpful to post all the speech and child development products I’ve recently talked about on our Facebook page in one location. Below is a summary of why I love each one and the link to shop:
Ages 2-However Long He Stays Interested
Melissa & Doug Reusable Sticker Pads
Read my blog post here about why I love these bad boys.
Ages 2-Try with as old as you got!
Liquid Motion Toys
This liquid motion toy is my go-to for speech therapy clients when they are sad or when they are starting to get frustrated about something. The liquid drops are mesmerizing and most of the time they help my kids calm down immediately.
Now, I know not all kids like straw cups, BUT…if your kids do or you have one about to make the switch from a bottle–try these first. They are great for improving oral motor skills. Drinking from a straw works on lip closure, improving tone and reducing tongue thrust. For an additional workout, pour a thicker liquid into the cup (like a shake or smoothie.)
Ages 5 and up (or younger if you get creative)
Read my blog post here about the fun you can have with this game, the speech-language and child development skills it covers, and how to get little ones involved.
Ages 4 and up (younger if you play a little differently)
Feed the Kitty
Ok, who’s played this game before? And, do you love it like I do? This is one of my favorite therapy games. It’s great as a reinforcer game when a child finishes a task or to take a couple of turns between a longer task in the therapy room. Small and easy to transport in your purse (if you put in a plastic bag) and take it with you on the go! Use this game to keep kids entertained during waiting times or as a short break between homework. One speech-language skill you could target is social flexibility. You gain and lose pieces throughout the game and it requires flexibility in thinking and keeping control of your emotions when you don’t get what you want.
And that’s it for now! Has anyone bought these or already have them? Let me know! I want to know what you think!
As always, shoot me a comment below or email if you have any questions.
