Is that song stuck in your head now? It is mine! Anyway, let’s talk LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Set.
This toy is spectacular for early literacy learning and practicing letters and sounds. It taught my son most of his letters, while I sat back and watched! I’m kidding, well kind of.
Kids can play by themselves or it’s a fun way to teach your child together. I have recommended this product to many friends and reviews are consistently positive. The toy teaches sounds through catchy music that kids love, it’s engaging and fun and did I mention these letters are magnets? For the price, it provides many hours of endless entertainment.
AND, don’t get me started on the speech concepts it teaches. The speech-language pathologist in me loves that it teaches how some letters make more than one sound.
Kids can work on general sounds, colors, concepts, and speech sounds.
Use LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Set to teach language concepts such as top, middle, or bottom. Arrange some of the magnet letters on the top part of the fridge (where they can still reach), some magnets in a middle row, and some on the bottom, and then ask your child to “pick a letter from the middle row” to put in the bus. Then change up the directions to include many trials of top, middle, and bottom.
Pick a letter and start practicing various speech sounds with your child. Even if they can’t produce certain sounds yet, exposing them to the sound and demonstrating how to produce those sounds with your articulators (lips and tongue) will help and encourage speech development.
Play a game where you “hunt” for various sounds. Lay out the magnets and have your child “find the sound that says ____.” For younger children, lay out a few choices (3-4 letters) so it’s easier to pick the right one.
The letters come in various colors. Practice colors by asking your child to pick out a sound that is a certain color and then put it in the bus.
Even Helps Older Kiddos
For older kids, you can take turns picking out letters and asking them questions like “what word can you think of that begins with the letter R.” Give a few choices of words if they need help.
When picking out a letter, you and your child work together to think of a word that begins with that letter. Then make up a “silly sentence” about that word. Try to encourage complete sentences.
And, that covers LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Set.
